Position Description: Networking and Telecommunications. Reporting to the Director of Networking & Telecommunications, the Network Administrator is responsible for all aspects of network administration including:
- Monitoring, diagnosing, and resolving network issues
- Documenting network problems and resolution for future reference
- Monitoring network system performance and implementing performance tuning
- Managing network system capacity planning including bandwidth and redundancy
- Reviewing network utilization and performance trends and suggesting requirements to maintain acceptable performance levels and accommodate campus traffic growth
- Overseeing network security for wired, wireless and VoIP architectures
- Administration and management of firewall systems, and VPN appliance and services
- Performing preventative maintenance on core routers and network equipment
- Ensuring network systems are kept in required configuration profile, including: patch maintenance, updating software and software configurations
- Ensuring network hardware and software installs, re-installs, upgrades, moves, changes and relocations are completed efficiently and as required
- Managing testing of network recovery and performing technology needs analysis
- Planning, implementing, and supporting the network infrastructure strategic plan
- Assisting with technology planning through ongoing research
- Mentoring, training and developing Networking & Telecommunications technical staff
- Working with OIIT to manage, monitor and resolve PeachNet/internet issues
- Occasional weekend, early morning and evening work required
Minimum Requirements: Associate's degree; five or more years of related work experience; experience troubleshooting large enterprise LAN/WAN technology, to include routing, switching, wireless, VPN technology, and application load balancing; experience writing network standards and creating network diagrams (using Visio); ability to manage multiple projects, activities and task simultaneously; experience in remote access VPN technology including IPSEC and SSL; strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, Internet Domain Name Service (DNS), SMTP mail and HTTP services, CISCO IOS, encryption and authentication methods including SSL certificates, private key and public/private key encryption protocols, and internet firewall security techniques; effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Higher Education, CCNA and CCNP
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience
