Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Position Summary:

The J.C. Lewis Primary Health Care Center is seeking to add a Full-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to our existing interdisciplinary team. The Psychiatric Nurse functions as an active member of the integrated care team to provide comprehensive integrated primary health care to patients in an outpatient primary care setting. The Psychiatric Nurse supports the teams efforts by providing comprehensive assessments, diagnostic and treatment services with regard to physical and behavioral health conditions.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Georgia
  • Advanced Nurse Practitioner currently registered with the Georgia State Board of Nurse Examiners (BNE)
  • Masters degree in nursing, with extensive knowledge in providing comprehensive medical care.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with the medical community.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Non-profit or public health experience (preferred)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responds to and initiates care for those requiring mental health services.
  • Identifies patient mental health problems and prescribes treatment.
  • Implements mental health services utilizing therapeutic regimens.
  • Provides mental health education to patients, healthcare and medical staff.
  • Provide health/behavioral health assessment (including differential diagnoses, prognosis), treatment recommendations and treatment planning for clients across program types.
  • Provide counseling, brief therapy, psychoeducation about health/behavioral health and other care for clients as planned by the treatment team and to support the treatment plan of the client. Participate in case reviews and contribute to treatment planning goal setting.
  • Communicate with health care providers outside of the agency and interpretation of health results for client care planning.
  • Provide clinical services with competence and according to guidelines.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles through health promotion, teaching and screening.
  • Formulate diagnosis on the basis of assessment.
  • Initiate treatment according to approved protocols and within scope of practice
  • Make appropriate medical and behavioral health referrals.
  • Utilize support of staff and collaborating providers
  • Ensure that all medical cases and needs are documented appropriately.
