SPECIAL EVENTS MANAGER

  • SPECIAL EVENTS MANAGER (TYBEE ISLAND TOURISM COUNCIL)

    Reports to: Tybee Island Tourism Council Marketing Director and the Tybee Island Tourism Council Board of Directors 

    Overview of Position: To create, implement and maintain Tybee events that increase tourism and overnight stays on Tybee Island especially during non-peak seasons. 

     

    Duties/Responsibilities:

     

    •Plan and produce quality events that drive tourism during historically non-peak tourism times on Tybee Island

    •Coordinate with volunteers in a supervisory capacity to accomplish event goals.

    •Partner with various businesses and organizations such as Tybee non-profits, the City of Tybee Island and Tybee Island Better Hometown to ensure community participation and support.

    •Develop and secure local, regional and national sponsorship opportunities which will support and sustain events on a local and corporate level.

    •Work with the Tybee Island Tourism Council Marketing Director to market and promote events on a local, regional and national level.

    •Partner with Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce member businesses on Tybee Island to continually audit and improve events.

    •Manage vendor relationships required to accomplish quality events.

    •Coordinate vendor involvement during events.

    •Continually audit and manage budgets associated with events and report results monthly to the TITC board.

    •Schedule and manage volunteer meetings to disseminate event information and communicate volunteer needs.

    •Schedule and supervise volunteer workers for events.

    •Manage events as deemed necessary by management such as the New Year’s Eve Fireworks and Labor Day Beach Bash.

    •Actively seek and secure new events for Tybee Island that will drive tourism, especially during non-peak tourism times.

    •Serve as a liaison between event planners and the City of Tybee Island to establish timelines and necessary permitting to ensure the event planning process goes smoothly.

    •Secure vendors, performers, artists, staging, and other production needs for events.

    •Attend Industry travel and trade shows on behalf of the TITC

    •Perform other Destination Marketing and/or Sales duties as assigned by Supervisor

     

    Requirements:

     

    •Preferred Bachelors Degree or equivalent from a college or technical school, or minimum of three years experience and/or training in the event management/production industry.

    •Ability to assess situations and determine needs to accomplish goals

    •Exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

    •Experience in fundraising, public speaking and volunteer management

    •Flexible working hours to include some nights and weekends

    •Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business contracts, write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.

    •Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and/or staff. Must maintain clear and concise documentation and take a positive approach to conflict resolution.

    •Ability to answer questions, successfully resolve issues and/or negotiate matters related to event management and adhere to prescribed deadlines and schedules.

    •Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

    •Must possess thorough knowledge of MS Windows and Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Explorer, etc).

    •Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

    •While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.  Work will be both indoors and outdoors; the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

     

    This is a full time salaried position

    Starting salary range $30,000-$33,000 plus benefits
