Academy Director

The Matthew Reardon Center for Autism (MRCA) is dedicated to improving the lives of children and families affected by autism spectrum disorder. Since 2000, we have been constructing pathways to engaged and productive lives for children with autism using proven, evidence-based practices. We’ve accomplished this through our accredited year-round day school, family advocacy and community education.

Demand for our educational support services has increased dramatically in the past few years, with the result that MRCA will increase enrollment capacity when we move to larger facilities in August, 2018, and will also establish the Matthew Reardon Early Learning Academy, an inclusion preschool for children with autism. Preschool Director will work closely with Walden School founder, Dr. Gail McGee, to assist in the establishment of preschool, direct and lead staff, oversee daily activities, prepare plans and budgets and be responsible for all aspects of Early Learning Academy program. Year 1: Director will also serve as Lead Teacher for Early Preschool classroom.

Director Duties:

• Learn and implement all aspects of Walden School Model
• Supervise preschool teachers and childcare workers
• Hire and train new staff members
• Provide training and professional development opportunities for staff
• Establish policies and communicate them to staff and parents
• Develop educational programs and set educational standards
• Help staff resolve conflicts between children
• Assist staff in communicating with parents
• Meet with parents and staff to discuss students’ progress
• Establish budgets and set fees for programs
• Ensure facilities are maintained and cleaned according to state regulations

Director EDUCATION (Required):  

Master’s Degree in the Early Child Care/Early Education field,a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Special Education, orMaster’s Degree in Psychology with emphasis/experience in Early Childhood Education/Development.

Highly Preferred: BCBA, Walden experience

Lead Teacher Job Summary (Year 1)

Serve as the Lead Teacher of an integrated preschool classroom for 3- to 4-year-old children with and without Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Supported by the preschool’s consultant and executive director, assisted by assistant teachers, and in consultation with therapists trained in Speech Language Pathology and Applied Behavior Analysis, the Lead Teacher will help create an inclusive learning environment that enables children with ASD to be productive, socially connected, and emotionally engaged, and provides all students (with or without ASD) with a stimulating learning environment where children are challenged to engage with the world they live in, and learn to approach each other with empathy and care.

Lead Teacher EDUCATION

Minimum, four-year degree in the early care education field (e.g., Bachelor’s Degree in [1] Early Childhood Education, [2] Child Development, or [3] an unrelated field paired with specialized training in Early Childhood Education).

Preferred: BCBA, Walden experience

Lead Teacher EXPERIENCE

Two years of experience teaching young children birth to age 5, preferably in an inclusive setting supporting diverse learners

Lead Teacher PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience teaching students with ASD
• Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) teaching certificate
• Master’s Degree in the Early Care/Early Education field, a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Special Education, or Master’s Degree in Psychology with emphasis/experience in Early Childhood Education/Development.

Lead Teacher KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Knowledge of developmentally appropriate classroom procedures for young children birth to age 5, including positive behavioral support strategies
• Conceptual understanding of the GELDS standards, and experience using these standards to specify learning outcomes
• Ability to collaborate with and provide mentorship to Assistant Teachers and other fellow staff members
• Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and communication skills
• Excellent organizational and classroom management skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Lead Teacher RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Refine and implement Walden curriculum focused on social interaction and play.
• Develop and implement accommodations that allow all children to participate in all classroom activities.
• Provide supervision, mentorship, and assistance to other preschool staff and participate appropriately in ongoingmeetings and training activities.
• Engage children’s families through classroom volunteer opportunities, parent-teacher conferences, and parent education sessions.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members in an organized and flexible manner and work effectively with other preschool staff in efforts to refine the classroom curriculum and develop adaptations for individual students.
• Document and maintain updated student information in the preschool data management system to record assessments, progress reports, and services provided to meet student objectives.
• Provide information to the educational support teams regarding students’ educational progress/ needs, and available school and community services.
• Assist Academy Director with development of staff by: being available to teammates, acting as a resource to help complete complicated/complex tasks, providing on the job training to team, and seeking out opportunities to become actively involved in staff workflow and development.
• Provide Academy Director feedback on staff performance, educational needs, and workflow status.
