Volunteer Center Assistant

America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, headquartered in Savannah, GA serves as the food safety net for tens of thousands of children, senior citizens, low-income families, and people with disabilities that are at-risk for hunger throughout southeastern Georgia.  We partner with over 275 faith based organizations and non-profit agencies to provide emergency food assistance across Coastal Georgia in twenty-one counties.  Last year, Second Harvest provided more than 15 million pounds of food to hungry people in our 21 county service area through a variety of programs.  We are currently hiring for the following part-time, exempt position: Volunteer Center Assistant
Reports to:  Volunteer Coordinator

This position will average 20 hours per week and some flexibility is required to include Saturday mornings. We anticipate this being an afternoon position but schedule can be confirmed and adjusted with supervisor. Rate of pay is $10 per hour.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties:

  • Assist the Volunteer Coordinator with streamlining the execution of volunteer tasks through demonstration, preparation, job aids and personal availability
  • Help set up and break down packing areas for group projects
  • Ensure the safety of all persons entering and departing the warehouse
  • Unload, inspect and inventory all product arriving at the Volunteer Center
  • Organize and maintain the Volunteer Center warehouse to ensure maximum cleanliness and efficiency of space
  • Maintain daily cleaning schedule including the inside and outside of Volunteer Center
  • Observe safety practices while in the Volunteer Center as well as while operating warehouse equipment including the forklift and motorized pallet jacks
  • Inspect equipment reporting any maintenance issues to Director of Operations
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors

Job Specifications/Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds regularly, 50 pounds occasionally and 75 pounds rarely
  • Ability to pass Forklift Operator Safety Training
  • Strong customer service ethic is required
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Committed to organizational mission of ending hunger
  • High school degree
