Volunteer Operations Coordinator

Americas Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, headquartered in Savannah, GA serves as the food safety net for tens of thousands of children, senior citizens, low-income families, and people with disabilities that are at-risk for hunger throughout southeastern Georgia. We partner with over 275 faith-based organizations and non-profit agencies to provide emergency food assistance across Coastal Georgia in twenty-one counties. Last year, Second Harvest provided more than 19.2 million pounds of food to hungry people in our 21-county service area through a variety of programs. We are currently hiring for the following full time, non-exempt position:

Volunteer Operations Coordinator

Reports to Community Relations Manager

The schedule for this position is Tuesday thru Saturday and includes one evening per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: The Volunteer Operations Coordinator is responsible for storing, staging and packing food products for volunteer projects. This position assists in the training and direction of volunteers to accomplish tasks and projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for volunteer project set up and take down

  • Ensure an exemplary experience for the volunteers

  • Orient volunteers to assigned tasks, Second Harvests mission and various programs

  • Maintain Volunteer Center, Pantry and warehouse areas according to Second Harvests

    sanitation and safety standards and in a neat, clean and orderly manner

  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks and projects efficiently while meeting

    deadlines and objectives

  • Uses heavy equipment on a daily basis including forklift, electric and manual pallet jacks

    and wrapping machines

    Requirements:

  • Excellent people/communication skills including public speaking

  • High School diploma or equivalent required

  • Prior experience working in a warehouse/manufacturing environment preferred

  • Forklift experience preferred

  • Must have strong problem solving, time management, organizational, multi-tasking and

    critical thinking skills

  • Experience with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook required and

    warehouse management systems preferred
