Mechanic I or II

Under general supervision is responsible for performing preventive maintenance and repairs on all fleet equipment including tractors, trailers, generators, excavators, pumps as well as all fleet vehicles.  Assists Fleet Supervisor in maintaining all required records of maintenance work, and repair information, etc.   Orders parts and helps maintain inventory.  Reports to the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of a vocational/technical school program in auto/truck mechanics, and a minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience dealing with auto and truck repair and maintenance, small engines and hydraulics, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • License in welding preferred for Mechanic II but not required.
  • Must possess or obtain within 1 year of hire certification in at least 3 mechanical areas by Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in a core area such as engines, preventive maintenance, HVAC and brakes for Mechanic II.  Must possess or obtain within one year of hire certification in at least 2 mechanical areas by ASE in a core area for Mechanic I.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Must possess ability to communicate, both orally and in writing and requires computer experience in Microsoft Office Products with the ability to use software used by BJWSA. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, and possess or obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License w/ A Tanker Endorsement within 1 year of hire or promotion.

Starting Salary: $18.14 per hr / $19.99 per hr (depending on qualifications) + excellent benefits package to include S.C.
