The GWCCA is currently seeking an Operations Manager in Savannah to join our team.  Be a part of our team at the Savannah Convention Center located directly across from historic Savannah and on the Savannah River.  This position is Responsible for supervising, training, and all related assistance in the day to day operations at the facility in the following areas: Event Set Up/Conversion and Housekeeping.  The ideal candidate is dependable, customer-focus oriented and is committed to providing the quality of work in line with our four core values – Be One, Be Honest, Be Stewards and Be Dynamic.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operational oversight and responsibility for Operations Coordinator, Operations and Housekeeping Leads.  Coordinate all work and staffing plans for event support.
  • Assistance in the development and implementation of a comprehensive training and safety program for all employees in Operations.  Serve as Coordinator for said training.
  • Hold daily facility operations planning strategy meetings with Operations Coordinator, Operations and Housekeeping Leads and regular staff meetings with the team.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, and schedule Operations staff.
  • Responsible for requisitioning supplies and for maintaining equipment and supply inventory controls, reports, and shortages.
  • Quote/purchase as required in area of operations.
  • Review event documents for operational issues.  Recommend solutions to identified issues.
  • Assist in overseeing activities of vendors, subcontractors, and city and county services.
  • Perform reviews of Operations Coordinator, Operations and Housekeeping Lead and Operations Crew members
  • By direction assist in the implementation of preventive and corrective maintenance, special projects, and contract negotiations and administration.
  • Submit recommendations for operating, capital maintenance, and capital equipment budgets.  By direction track budget for expenditures in compliance with operational goals. 
  • Recommend goals/objectives for Operations Coordinator, Operations and Housekeeping Leads.
  • Provide operations event support at pre-cons, post cons, and site visits.
  • Maintain current SDS on all products, even trial products and OSHA personal protection equipment.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Establish and maintain sub-department rules of conduct.
  • Responsible for processing payroll and labor allocations
  • Enforces employee dress code and grooming standards.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

  • Must have a working knowledge of event conversion/housekeeping procedures relating to a commercial facility;
  • Knowledge of the operation of various cleaning equipment and techniques and of operation of moving equipment.
  • Clearly demonstrated ability at problem solving, planning, organizing, and logistics.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with internal and external customers in a professional manner to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • High degree of integrity and compliance
  • Ability to build and maintain customer focused relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Research and interpret relevant information from a range of sources.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma/GED required
  • BA in an area applicable to facility management, resource management or hospitality/convention industries preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Three to five years in proven supervisory or facility management leadership role.  Demonstrated ability to handle multiple positions with minimum instruction, experience in crisis management.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Exposure to adverse weather conditions and to various cleaning chemicals.
  • Must have the ability to work flexible/irregular hours to perform duties and responsibilities including weekends, holidays and nights.  
  • Position requires extensive walking, occasional bending, stooping, and climbing.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs on a consistent basis
  • Must have the ability to lift, move, and set up equipment including but not limited to: tables, chairs, risers, staging, and other related items as needed.
