America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, located in Savannah, GA serves as the food safety net for tens of thousands of children, senior citizens, low-income families, and people with disabilities that are at-risk for hunger throughout southeastern Georgia.  We partner with over 300 churches and non-profit agencies to provide emergency food assistance across Coastal Georgia in twenty-one counties.  Last year, Second Harvest provided more than 13.5 million pounds of food to hungry people in our area through a variety of programs.  We are currently hiring for the following position:

Distribution Coordinator

SUMMARY:

As a member of the Operations Team, the Receiving and Distribution Coordinator is responsible for attending Participating Agency shoppers during their visit to America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia while maintaining a safe, clean working environment.  The normal schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 7AM-3:30PM. Occasional Saturdays and overtime may be required. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains up to date knowledge of Second Harvest’s products and programs in order to accurately match bill of lading with receiving forms verifying counts.
  • Accurately and in a timely manner prepares filings for all food programs including food receipts and related documentation to Feeding America, America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia and any other regulatory agency.
  • Assist with inventory accuracy of receiving and delivery processes.
  • Assist in reconciling inventory for all food programs to include counting, data preparation, troubleshooting and report management
  • Extensive customer interaction.
  • Selection of products from the “pull” sheet for the Participating Agency.
  • Extensive data entry and maintenance of online ordering system.
  • Processing of orders and communication with warehouse to ensure orders are pulled and staged for agency pick-up.
  • Accurately weighing each item and generating an invoice to reflect each item and the proper weights.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
  • Maintaining the equipment.
  • Assist with the daily activities of community service workers and assist with volunteers as needed.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and appearance of the shopping areas to include some janitorial responsibilities.
  • Sanitation of products and the facility in compliance with Feeding America and other applicable food safety requirements.
  • Comprehending and implementing the policies and guidelines of food handling, storage, and distribution in compliance with Feeding America.
  • Occasionally assist with pulling orders in the warehouse.
  • Any other pertinent duties deemed appropriate by the Operations Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a high school degree with some college preferred.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Clean driving record and valid Georgia driver’s license.
  • Strong computer skills (previous work in inventory database systems is a requirement) and the ability to learn new technology at a fast pace.  Must also have demonstrable skills in Excel, Outlook and Word.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to comprehend and implement direction.
  • Ability to comprehend the tasks of other employees, cross train, and fill in if necessary.
  • Must be able to orally communicate and write in English at a level that is reflective of someone at this level of responsibility.
  • High level of personal and professional integrity is essential.
  • Certified or the ability to become certified in food safety and knowledgeable of safety and regulatory compliance issues.  
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and opinions.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Warehouse environment; extensive computer and phone work, some driving, walking, standing, bending, stooping kneeling, lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds; regular contact with volunteers and agencies; periodically works extended hours.
